Sustainable - Energy-efficient - High throughput

A special challenge

From connectors to solar panels, from junction boxes to reusable cable drums - over 50,000 items, in large quantities, on pallets, in cassettes and containers, picked to suit the construction site, ready for collection or delivery in just a few hours - sustainable, CO2-neutral, energy-efficient in operation: that was the challenge when planning and building the high-performance central warehouse for the world's leading electrical wholesaler.

With the intralogistics system implemented by our partner Stoecklin, we have taken an important step towards automation and securing the future: It is constantly optimizing itself in line with current requirements and is already designed for growing goods throughput.

Benjamin Ertl, Head of Supply Chain Sonepar Suisse AG

Exactly the right solution

Stöcklin was the partner to sustainably combine maximum performance with strong energy management in intralogistics for Sonepar Suisse. The core of the plan was to divide the new central warehouse - - into a fully automated high-bay warehouse with four MASTer storage and retrieval machines, offering space for 6,000 pallets and 1,500 cassettes, and an aisleless compact warehouse for 55,000 containers with an Autostore system and 70 conveyor robots.

Orders are picked via picking stations integrated into the conveyor system and set up in the basement (UG). Chain and roller conveyors, lift transfer units and turntables from the Stoecklin modular system are used as transport elements for providing the requested load carriers at the picking workstations and returning them to the high-bay warehouse. A pallet dispenser is also available.

Constructive and fair cooperation was essential in order to implement such a complex system within such a short period of time and, towards the end, also under pandemic-related restrictions.

Serkan Zeyrek, Project Manager

This saves time and energy

The material flow and storage location management with logOS WMS - the warehouse management module of the Stöcklin logOS Software Suite - was an attractive feature of the overall concept. It calculates and coordinates the transport orders with the high-performance control units of the storage and retrieval machines in such a way that storage strategies and orders are taken into account simultaneously and high-speed double cycles are possible. Up to 33 per hour, depending on the type of container.

Up to 400 containers are stored per hour, with up to 1,600 items being picked at peak times. And should a break occur, the Stöcklin logOS WMS energy management system puts the devices into stand-by mode, which saves time and energy.

Benefits for the customer

The entire system can be operated 24 hours a day if required. The standard case, however, is ten hours a day, five days a week.
